I really liked it! There’s something about a weird main character that I really like. The way it was structured was really interesting and I thought it fit the tone of the book well. Quick read!

Linda is a solitary young woman who lives in a cabin in the woods of Minnesota with her parents. She doesn't seem to fit in well at school, and she's mainly left to her own devices at home. Over the course of a summer, she gets to know a couple that is vacationing in a cabin across the lake from Linda's, babysitting for their young son Paul and spending lots of unstructured time at their place. I don't want to give any spoilers, but there's some weird, slightly cultish Christian Science stuff going on and all of the desolate wintery vibes.

This was the perfect book to pick up in early January—I wanted winter atmosphere and History of Wolves delivered. The language is beautiful and the mood is isolated and bleak. I loved the way the story starts at the end and then jumps back in time to slowly fill in the missing pieces, so that by the end you can return to the first chapter and better understand what's going on. If you're a melancholy soul like me and you want to just fully embrace the cold season, pick this one up.
