I was spooked. (BIG SPOOKED) and I cried. This book moved me.

I can't say I've read anything quite like this. This is a fantastic mix of psychological horror, dark fantasy, and thriller. I went in blind, and I could have never predicted where the story was going. It has so many layers that just kept unraveling.

Definitely one of the most unforgettable reads I've had all year. One of the best endings I've had all year. Highly recommend.

Mind blowing, frightening, emotional, and somehow even funny at times.

I prefer you go in blind but if you must know something...
Jess finds a 5-year-old, all hell breaks loose, and they end up on the run.

I enjoyed the concept. It reminded me of Stephen King's Firestarter. Had to dock marks for that ending, though.
Having improv save the day, and ending on a "yes, and" was so cringe to me.

The ending was terrible, didn’t resolve the initial mystery of the book.

Jess is a struggling actress, spending her nights working at Poppy's diner, so she can spend her days going to auditions. She just finished cleaning the bathroom, where she accidentally stabbed herself with a used needle. So, her night is already going badly, when she gets home to find a kid hiding in the bushes next to her apartment. The kid is terrified, so she has him come in the apartment to eat while she figures out her next move with the kid and her health. However, the kid's dad shows up, turning into some kind of monster and hurting the other residents. Jess gets in the car and takes off with the boy. However, the father is able to track them, so they have to keep running. This book had me on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole time. I liked how much Jess was invested in saving the boy. I also felt the book was not at all predictable, but the ending was a bit hard to understand at first. Still a solid 4 stars.
