This was a good one. King as Bachman really had some great stories. This is one of them.
Solid read. I liked the general premise of the story, and that gut punch of an ending is one of the darkest I can remember. That being said, this one felt like a novella stretched out to novel length. Add it all up, and it equals a 3-star rating from me.

I don't know why I read even as many Kings as I did when I never really liked them that much. This one had a severely retarded ending where -- SPOLIER ALERT! -- the emaciated guy eats a heart pie or something. How does he think of 'em??!
It's hard to separate the movie from the book, since I experienced the latter first, but I still enjoyed reading Thinner.
"Some guys-- a lot of guys---don't believe what they are seeing, especially if it gets in the way of what they eat or drink or think or believe. Me, I don't believe in God. But if I saw him, I would. I wouldn't just go around saying 'Jesus, that was a great special effect.' The definition of an asshole is a guy who doesn't believe what he's seeing. And you can quote me."
-Richie "The Hammer" Ginelli
“Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can't see.”
-Conductor from Polar Express
An average novella and somehow a slog to get through despite its small size. However, the end had redeeming qualities. As is the case with Richard Bachman books, King did not fail to leave us with a victory for the protagonist that requires too many loses to justify.
