MS. MARVEL VOL. 2 by G. WILLOW WILSON | ★★★★★

Here is the conclusion of Kamala's first big adventure in the Marvel Universe! Collected are issues #12-19, and from the first eleven issues, I was left wondering what new things would come up for Kamala. Yet, G. Willow Wilson raises the stakes and puts Kamala in challenging situations that unfold more of her story and the mythology that she's become entangled in (again, see Inhumans for more). From a mystery love interest, to the Inhumans and New Attilan, to Ms. Marvel struggling to balance the life of a superhero and a normal teenager, this volume offers more of what fans have already been introduced to in the first volume: laughs, heart, wit, and some pain. The last few issues in this volume were bittersweet, due to the involvement with Secret Wars, and even if you were to read this after the Secret Wars event, you still feel the weight of the world on Kamala and she struggles to be someone that she thinks everyone needs. Even in the last few pages of the volume, Kamala realizes what it means to be a superhero, and that's what makes her character so powerful and relatable. I can't wait to start on her new adventures post-Secret Wars! Ms. Marvel is a character everyone should be paying close attention to. She may surprise all of us in the future.

G. Willow Wilson is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Though the pacing was overwhelming at times, I continued to be fascinated and emotionally compromised by Wilson's world. The art style is stupendous; the characters shinning and real; the baby steps provided for this newbie to Islamic Pakistani culture well thought out; storytelling cliches are expertly avoided and upended. Kamala is a wonderful, stand out hero of today and long may she reign!

This was a great continuation of Volume 1. Overall there was a bit less action and no real baddie to overcome, but it did end on a cliffhanger which makes me want to pick up the next volume. I am really liking the character of Ms. Marvel. I haven't read a ton of comics and definitely need to read more to get more background, but I think starting with a YA version of a superhero is a good intro to the Marvel Universe.

I enjoyed this volume but I found it a little non-linear and it seemed to jump around from one story to a completely different one. There is still one storyline that was started but not completed that I am hoping will be picked up in the next instalment. The little side stories with SHIELD and Spiderman were fun but I would have rather focused on the main one.

Overall it was a good 3.5 stars but not as strong as the first volume.

ms. marvel is so good.
i have two complaints, though:
- there was some parts where i felt like too much time had skipped over without much of an explanation or a summary of what had happened
- kamala fell "in-love" with psycho dude in less than 2 days. that was insane and it didn't make any sense how she was brooding over his being a piece of garbage for a long while afterwards. or i guess it wasn't a long while, it was just that it was constantly mentioned... like we get it, you feel disappointed, but you didn't know him for that long!

on to the great stuff; i love kamala and her dedication to her super-abilities + saving new jersey.
i kind of feared she would feel flattered at bruno's confession and fall at his feet for some reason, and i'm glad she was all like "ok thanks ily2 but im kinda busy atm".
i love that her mom knew about her abilities! loved the loki cameo, and made me a little interested to see how they're writing him since i wasnt a fan of the thor movies (or his appearances in the mcu).

they're also still making her a normal teenager... which i think is great. i half-expected her to be like "i have responsibilities, i cannot have fun or break rules or make mistakes ever", so thanks @ wilson + marvel co.

random but, there was an art change, and it made everyone look a lot more polished, which was strange, but i didn't mind much. all art for this is pretty.
also i didn't care for the shield comic or the peter parker comic at the end...
