It's a beautiful story, spawning over decades, countries and families. Everything is tied together in someway. I'm usually disappointed in the ending of books, but not this one.

Khaled is an insane storyteller, and it shows. Parts of the novel were akin to a gripping screenplay from a Scorsese film. The non-linear storytelling was refreshing and quite interesting. I was happy with the ending; there was immense satisfaction as to how things turned out, all things considered, but also this weird gaping hole in my chest, which is what most authors expect their readers to feel.

I had a great time reading this. I didn't cry as much as I expected, but the last chapter got me. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who's considering reading it.

Terrible writting, the blurb talkes about a story of sibling and what befalls them. But thats only about 1/5 of the book, rest are random plots stitched together. Sad stories and suffering without any real meaning. Seems like the story is written for an audience interested in pityporn rather one that wants to dwell deeper into the Afghan world. Gave it two stars because the start was so promising.

Good book. I didn't like it as well as his other 2. There were a lot of characters, some that I didn't see the point of. He slipped around a lot which was hard to follow at times. But I do enjoy his writing. He is great at allowing the reader to see everything he's writing. He's very descriptive.
