I was surprised to enjoy this book after being a long-time hater of history/ wars. I typically find American historical fiction to be dry and miserable to read bc I get ptsd of APUSH. BUT the relatable, gritty female perspective of this book made me be like…wait, can I actually like history, if it’s not told by men?

A brutally honest and intimate story of survival during the Vietnam War era from the perspective of the women who heeded the call to serve their country but who were then promptly dismissed as the war’s popularity turned. This book will fill you pride and then crush your heart only to slowly knit you back together. And it is the women, THE WOMEN, who stayed and fought and healed each other when nobody else would. Highly recommend.
