A great read! I was a little weary because I don’t like doctor shows at all (I’ll admit I glazed over some of the extra gory descriptions of the Vietnam war casualties). I appreciated the second half of the book focusing more on the aftermath of Frankie’s tour (although a couple of plot lines I predicted because Kristin Hannah likes to pile on the trauma.)

An incredibly well written historical fiction novel about a topic I didn’t know much about. I vividly recall being in 8th grade and seeing the women’s Vietnam monument in DC for the first time and being profoundly struck by it. Even after that, I remained unaware of the additional struggles that those women faced, even from their fellow veterans. Having read other books by this author, I cannot imagine a better author to tell this story. The choice to have half of the book focus on the post-war struggles was smart and necessary and told another vital part of the history of that time. I highly, highly recommend this book to any fans of historical fiction, especially those that focus on the experiences of women.
