Don’t Open the Door, edited by Cory Mason, is a horror anthology featuring a range of writers from the relatively new to the more experienced. Each has contributed a story to this collection to show their support for the charity, Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA).
The stories follow the theme of leaving well alone, as in those horror movies when you find yourself shouting at the screen, ‘don’t open that door!’ The authors have provided a wide variety of styles from the openly gruesome (Feed the Pigs), to the quieter, more chilling tone of The Woman Of The House. I enjoyed all the tales with The Woman Of The House by A.J. Walker being one of my favourites, with its evil Russian spirit, the Kikimora. This particular spirt enjoys tidying up … in more ways than one. Other favourites were Chalk by T.H. Willoughby, with a tale of the hunter and the hunted and Trapped in the Haunted House by Johvan Calvo, which recounts a little boy’s terror. A few of the stories could have been developed further but were still enjoyable. A nice little read and a worthwhile cause. Pick up a copy today.
