fast-paced

Downloaded this from my local library to listen to whilst my class was out at their swimming lesson and I was left behind putting up displays. Definitely not a waste of data! Thoroughly enjoyed it it, and if we haven't already got it in the school library, I'm buying my own copy to read with the children's book club. Just a super example of how clever and engaging a book for 7-9yos can be without being boring or the wrong emotional level. Pullman never talks down to kids, and he's not afraid of broadening their vocabulary, either. Makes for an absolutely super audiobook/read aloud, too, which is tough for this level.

On lend from Elin whilst I'm at home in quarantine, and the first in a series of some nostalgic British novels.

Read this in one sitting. A clever (and slightly creepy) fairy tale for kids/young adults. I admired how well Philip Pullman knits this story and the characters together in a short space of time.

This is a gentle ghost story that goes forward and backwards in time while describing clockwork figures that become lifelike. I listened to this and found it a bit hard to follow from time to time, and I also suspect it is still a little to macbe for my girls. Would be a good read around Halloween.
