Did the most dramatic and illogical teenager write this? I’m so sorry, but it’s so bad. Stop the presses, cancel publishing, fire the editor kind of bad. At one point
one of the girls is kidnapped to be a drug mule but she’s magically rescued the next day by the world’s most meek teenage girl
and none of this even lent anything to the plot. Both of the main characters were awful and beyond annoying. The best part of the book is the end, when it’s openly acknowledged that if the main character had used her brain for one single second, literally none of this nonsense would’ve ever happened.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC.

I was lucky enough to get an arc for this book and I devoured it in 3 days flat. It was nearly impossible for me to put it down. I absolutely loved the characters and their development throughout the story. The plot was really well done, in that it was exciting/thrilling, but also touched very deeply at my heart. Overall, Simmonds debut book is a home run. I'll be looking out for her future work.

I greatly enjoyed this book. It is a story of two girls from very different backgrounds who decide to take a road trip away from the chaos and negativity of their lives. They learn a lot about themselves, each other, and the different versions of the world they each come from.

Brooke is from a high class family under the stress to be a perfect child. Parents who care to much, when she really just wants to fix up her vintage mustang. Jessie comes from a lower class family, with a mom who is more concerned about her next relationship than Jessie and what she is going through. Jessie’s mom’s boyfriend turns up dead and she believes she needs to get out of town or be a suspect.

As Jessie and Brooke move across the country they learn a lot about each other’s life, become friends, and then feelings start to develop.
This story is a great coming of age book that takes a look at some of the really terrible situations kids can be raised in and their need to escape. Along with the hard topics, there is the feeling of being in a road trip and getting into some trouble along the way.

A slowburn teen Thelma & Louise with a happy ending.
