“Blood Queen” is Caitlin Denman’s latest book, and I have to say it was a really good start to a new series! Layla is known as the Blood Queen because she once violently murdered someone in front of her subjects - and nobody but her knew about the bad things that person did. I thought this was a really interesting book, and I was intrigued by Layla’s confidence and brutality; she is definitely not a damsel in distress. She also had no impulse control, which made certain scenes even more dramatic. I also really liked Rune, Layla’s betrothed. He was very charismatic and protective, and I loved that he was just as ruthless as Layla when the situation called for it. The ending was such a shocker, too…. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Blood Queen

THOUGHTS:

I want to thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

Do you love a book that:

-Secret Identity
-Arranged Marriage
-Touch Her And D!e
-Banter
-Bonded Spirit Animals
-Cliffhanger ;)

This will be for you and it has even more within!

When I say that I devoured this delicious book—I mean it! This book had all the good elements from spice to action and romance twisted around every single corner. This book was a fast paced book that left me with the worst hangover afterwards. I spent an entire day dedicated to reading this book and I was incredibly sad to place it down. The characters were well relatable and I loved them as well as the world building/story/plot. I loved being there for the time that I could. Prince Rune YES YES I loved him to pieces & Layla was incredible! I love to see a strong FMC in a book and she was all that and more in this book. The SPICE in this book was perfection! It wasn’t too little or too much it was juuussssst riiight! I will be patiently pacing back and forth waiting for the next book I can read by this author and that book 2 comes SO FAST!

Denman rises to the occasion with this twisted tale of blood and legacy. I enjoyed every page, and definitely want it on my shelf now.

First I’d like to thank the author for sending me this Arc in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book for the most part, however I feel like some of the world building needed some work. There were a lot of times especially toward the end where things are mentioned and made out to be huge components to the story but they weren’t mentioned AT ALL leading up to it. It was just poof here’s this super important thing that you had no idea about before but definitely should have. Which is ultimately what made this 3⭐️s for me instead of 4. However, I loved the banter and back and forth between Layla & Rune and their hot and cold relationship. Rune is probably my favorite from the whole book. That ending though!?! WHAT??? I need to know the next part now!!

I received this book as an ARC (thank you Caitlin). The genre was a little different than what I normally read and I really liked it. The main character is great and I really liked her. I would definitely recommend reading this!

I really, really enjoyed Blood Queen, and I’m looking forward to the next book, but I have a very big problem with the writing. I spent the entirety of the book trying to figure out what, exactly, the author has against complete sentences. The sentence fragments were killing me! There were also so, so many editorial errors, particularly with misplaced, misused, or just plain missing punctuation. The verb tenses often didn’t agree, sometimes within the same sentence! I actually pondered a couple of times if perhaps the sentence fragments happened because the author did not use the correct tense. The only reason this book was 3 stars for me is because I truly enjoyed the plot and I’m excited to see what happens next. If I had found the plot to be lackluster at all, this would’ve been a 1-star for me, purely based on the grammatical and editorial mistakes. If you’re publishing a book, do better.

I received an advance review copy of Blood Queen, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for this book.

“I wanted to murder him, rip out his heart, and feed it back to him. I wanted to take out all my aggression on him. But then why did I also want to feel his hand against my skin and feel him inside me once more?”

Thank you so much NetGalley and Caitlin Denman for an arc of Blood Queen in exchange for an honest review.

I am very thankful to the author and Netgalley for letting me read it and review it. I liked the book; the concept is different, that sucks you in right inside the book. I love the dark vibes I got from the kingdom and the places mentioned in the book.

Overall I liked this book. I finished it in three days so it clearly hooked me! A really good ratio of spice to plot. It was a bit hard to wrap my head around the FMC’s characterization at times but otherwise a really good book 1. Caution: book does end on a cliffhanger that leaves you without answers and praying the author releases book 2 soon
