'When We Walked on the Moon: Discover the dangers, disasters, and triumphs of every moon mission' by David Long with illustrations by Sam Kalda is a book for young readers that talks about the space race, then every Apollo mission afterward.

Starting with a few pages about the space race, the book quickly gets in to the amazing Apollo missions. Mission details, who the astronauts were, and what they thought are all highlights. The dangers and problems are also there. So are the sentimental things, like Charlie Duke leaving a photo of his family on the moon for future explorers to find.

I recently read a similar book for young readers, but this book really brought out the wonder of discovery, and finishes with a chapter on the legacy as well as what is next. The illustrations are nice and the book ends with bios of all the astronauts featured.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

When We Walked on the Moon by David Long is now one of my favorite children's books! It was informative to both children and adults - I learned so many things I had never heard before, the illustrations are beautiful, and it was written in a way that made it easy to understand. I didn't know I was this interested in space and the moon missions until I read this book. I will definitely be putting this book on my shelf and can't wait to share it with others.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in return for an honest review.

"He was stunned by how beautiful the earth looked from so far away."

I love the format of this book...a beautiful picture book and chapter book rolled into one! The pictures are engaging and there is just enough text to stimulate interest and keep the reader moving forward without getting bogged down.

When We Walked on the Moon invites the reader to journey through the origins of space travel and ponder the ingenuity it required to make it to the moon. I love all the facts and statistics that children can grasp and be amazed by!

Children's non-fiction is my jam and I especially love anything to do with science! I would recommend this book for classroom use and to add to a Space unit study. I will use it with my own children during our studies of space during the school year. This book would also make an excellent "read alone" for upper elementary students.

I am thankful to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book to review. All opinions are my own.

This is a bit of an odd picture book. On one hand, it has very simple illustrations of the men on the moon.

But then on the other hand, the text is at a higher level than the pictures.

Since this all happened in my childhood, I remember bits of this, so it is a bit of a nostalgic trip, with the moon buggy and such. But whether children today would enjoy reading this, is hard to say. It is good that the book has been written.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book- it's aimed at kids, but I think adults will enjoy it too! I learned things I don't remember hearing before, and the book explained everything clearly in a conversational tone that made reading it more enjoyable. The artwork is gorgeous, and compliments the text nicely. At the end of the book, there are group portraits of the flight crews for the Apollo 11 through 17 missions with a brief bio of each astronaut, and a timeline of the missions and events leading to and following the missions. An awesome book, highly recommended!

I liked this book all right - I learned a few interesting tidbits which I didn't know before. The artwork was good, and fun. Except for the following, I think it'd be a great book for kids to read about the moon missions and landings. But I was very disappointed to only see white people in the big art spread of the work done to save the Apollo 13 astronauts, given that we know there were black computers working at NASA. I also think a discussion about how the astronauts were chosen and WHY they were all men, and white, would be good so children don't assume upon reading that white men were just intrinsically better at being astronauts. These things matter.

I want to thank #netgalley for giving me a copy of #WhenWeWalkedOnTheMoon to review. I thought the illustrations were unique and really enjoyed them. The story gave information about multiple moon missions and biography information about the crew members. I would definitely recommend this book for my students.

Another of those books where the illustrations and the text (quantity and level of information) don’t match each other. The illustrations are very childish but the info and the amount of text is certainly some years older than that. I would have put less text and more concise info or keep the information as they are but add real good quality picture and not just illustration... Anyway maybe this is just me, my preference and all, but this book didn’t please me!

When we walked on the moon is a wonderfully informative book jam packed with so much information!
There is a lot I didn't know about and think children we be fascinated by it all.

The bio on the astronauts and the Apollo mission sections are brilliant, as are the quotes included.
This is perfect for space fanatics and perfect for school projects too.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
