I think I read this 15 times yesterday, so Kathryn would recommend it. We both got quite good at making our scary faces.
This was one of the best books I have ever read aloud. It outright encourages reader response and participation, and gets kids moving even if only for a little while. The boys I watch (4 and 6) both adored the book and it was a blast to read through on my end as well, We went through it three times before the boys lost interest, which is very nearly a record for them!
Jan Thomas is a genius when it comes to pre-school literature. She produces books with bright illustrations that appeal to children. The simply structured text is also easy for the age group to understand and memorize.
This book has the reader following a set of instructions given by the narrator, standing up, sitting down, wiggling the nose. It is when a frog menaces our bug narrator that we are asked to make a scary face.

A great storytime action book. Has the kids stand up, sit down, and chicken dance.
Simple but enjoyable, large pictures and LARGE type make this an excellent large-group storytime book for 2 1/2-5 year olds. Kids can do all the actions the ladybug narrator demands, creating much fun, activity and (sneaky) learning.
Cute pictures & a fun, interactive story. It worked really well for an off the cuff, surprise storytime.
I like the premise of this book, but I feel like it ends too abruptly. I think the students felt the same—they seemed to be waiting for another command to follow as the bug ran away.
3 stars if you read this to yourself and 4 stars if you read it out loud and get your audience to participate (sadly, my husband refused). Very engaging and silly book that the preschool set will adore.
My 4 yr old loved this book! It got her up and moving and is very interactive. She was laughing and giggling and wanted me to read it over and over.
