Keira and her gang are back and they’re cooler than ever! Yes, I said that and I don’t care how cringy it sounds because it’s true.

The Twisted Dead is the third installment in Darcy Coates’ Gravekeeper series and, honestly, it keeps getting better.

There are no new characters but we get to know more about each of them. The bond between Keira and her friends strengthens with each adventure and I love seeing that. Plus, the slow burn romance is finally starting to show! The author is making us wait, but I’m sure the next book will be more fulfilling in that department.

This book has:
-a badass Keira kicking ghostly ass
-some long awaited answers
-funny banter
-a road trip
-some of Zoe’s funniest lines
-a highly tense and suspenseful pursuit
-more cuteness for cat lovers
-a happy but cliffhanger-y ending

Veredict: read it! As long as you’ve read the first two and liked them, that is.

If you’re on the fence about giving this series a chance, I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. Don’t do so with the expectation of finding terrifying horror, because that’s not what this series is about. Read it expecting a cozy mysterious paranormal small town story and if that’s your thing, you will enjoy it for sure.

This is book 3 in the GraveKeeper series. I am loving this series the more it goes on. The characters are so loveable with so much personality and I just want to be their friend.
This book you got more insight into Keira’s past before she lost her memory and I just can’t wait to read the next book.

The Twisted Dead
(Gravekeeper #3)

eARC & Book Review
Pub Date: February 7, 2023

In the 3rd installment in the Gravekeeper series, Keira is back and having to put her *gift* to work once again!

After receiving an invitation to dinner at Dane Crispin’s crumbling estate, she is tasked with a new job: helping Dane free himself of the ghosts that live throughout the estate. Not to mention, his mansion is full of eerie history and restless spirits.

Once again, Darcy Coates has sucked me in and written a book that I just can’t put down! His books are equal parts cozy and creepy, jam packed full of ghosts and her awesome friends — Zoe and Mason. I love how her books are almost “lighter” than your typical horror/mystery, but still full of excitement. I also love how there’s clearly some slow-burn romance happening between Keira and Mason, but it doesn’t take over the plot at all! She’s still clearly the main character and it is just a subplot

I am looking forward to the next installment in this series!

Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this eARC in exchange for my honest review!

I was so excited to re-enter the Gravekeeper world and see what new mystery Keira was going to solve.

The characters in this series are all so fun and unique. They keep the story light and fun even when some dark things are happening. Such as when Keira touches a death imprint and sees how someone died, then you have Zoe spouting off some nonsense. It helps break up the tension.

I also loved that we got to see more of Dane and Harry. I had a feeling from book 1 that both of them would have a bigger role at some point in the series. I hope in the future we see them become a bigger part of the friend group. They add a fun element to the group.

This series gives me Ghost Whisperer vibes, so if you liked that show you would love this! This book is marketed as horror, and I feel like it is a great introduction to the horror genre. There are some dark things mentioned and it is full of suspense, but it isn't terrifying to read.

I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I am dying to know more about Keira's past and what happened to cause her to lose her memories.

Like the second book in this series, this book does a really good job of recapping the story so far. It brought me up to speed quickly and easily, so I could get back into this ever intriguing storyline!

I really enjoy reading about Keira, her evolving powers, and the events her and her friends get tied up in. The events of this book were very interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat. We’re so close to learning the truth about Keira’s past—I’ll be patiently waiting for more in the series!

dark mysterious

The damp leaves coated the ground, filling the air with a must that only a graveyard could create. The stones were in disarray, some toppled over, others cracked through, and others covered in a slimy moss. She made her way through the resting places of each resident and talked to the ones who would acknowledge her, because she could do that you know… see the ghosts.

The Twisted Dead continues following Keira, who can see ghosts with a second vision she’s been gifted with. I won’t go into much detail of the plot of this one because it would spoil some things from the first two books of this series.

I was drawn right back into Keira’s story as this book picks up where book two left. A new plot intertwining with an ongoing plot with lots of ghost adventures. While this is classified as a horror novel, I’d put it more in the “cozy horror” category as it’s not a gory, scary type of book. The middle of this one did drag a bit for me as it took a little side journey that didn’t interest me, but the two main plot points definitely had me invested. Also, Keira’s friend Zoe is the best side character and reminds me so much of Phoebe from Friends.
I’m hoping there is a book four coming out because this story is not over!

If you’re looking for a spooky ghost tale with sinister undertones that aren’t too scary, then I recommend checking out this series by Darcy.
