I really liked this book!! I always love reading about out queer characters, and Sam is an awesome character indeed. I loved how the book effortlessly blends magic and reality, making spell work simply another drama of high school. The plot moves rapidly and each character is really well developed. I hope he releases a second book because there is definitely more places this could go.

UGA MENTION RAHHH ATHENS FTW RAHHHHHH

anyway i think more worldbuilding would have made the stakes make more sense. i didnt hate this book i just dont know how ratings work.

favorite line:

“…Or maybe it’s the problem of being friends with anybody for as long as I’ve been friends with Delia and James[…] You’re not allowed to change.”

I stand uncorrected Delia is my favorite character
Spoiler:
I love when an author writes a morally ambiguous character, and you're confused and you don't know if you should stan or not and gosh I loved her more than the boys, tho I liked not knowing who he was going to choose right up till the end.

This book had the right formula and variables to be freaking good. Still the author got the wrong answer. I like the idea behind it and some of the plot elements that happen later into the book, but honestly I didn’t like any of the characters, the magic system (or lack of such), and the way it’s generally written.
This book was on my tbr for some time and it’s a disappointment:(
