EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK! If I could give this book 6/5 stars I would. This was the first book to make me cry. I would read this book over and over again.

WoW. This book got me in tears. It’s so so beautifully written, so poetic, so hard at times…. Just wow.

You can tell Sinclair is a poet just from how beautiful her words are. I struggled to get into it at the beginning, but quickly I was enraptured with her story and the way she tells it. Her work is just incredibly beautiful to read, and as someone who doesn't know much about Rastafarianism, it's really interesting to get the insight of it, and her feelings on it both outside of Jamaica and in it.

i dislike very flowery language so this is not for me, which is a shame because i was really looking forward to learning more about this culture and the authors story
