This haunting story is going to stay with me. Like the synopsis said, it reminded me so much of Educated and the strength and brilliance of the author shines. I can’t imagine the resilience needed to even write this story let alone live through it. I learned so much about Rastafarian culture. Powerful!

Beautifully written, searing and ultimately inspiring memoir that had the bonus of educating me about Rastafarianism.

Affecting and hypnotically lyrical. Relatable across the boundaries of culture and religion, to anyone who has been captive in one way or another. Haunted with unanswered whys and hows, and permeated with unresolved sadness.

Ik heb even niet veel meer woorden dan: heel indrukwekkend, zal nog lang bij blijven, en wauw.
