REVIEW FOR FUTURE ME WHEN I FORGET THAT I EVEN READ THIS BOOK:
This started off awfully. The first 40% was 95% dialogue that was both hard to follow and pointless. The whole time at the cabin was super dreary and that amount of time just wasn’t needed to set up the fact that the group were old friends and Joe was an asshole. Once we got to her mum’s things ramped up in true McFarlane style and you really enjoyed it. Not normally one for friends to lovers but Matt was super sweet and #actsofservice so you’ll allow it. A great depiction of the fortitude of female friendships in the face of a gaslighting SO, and the length it can take to unpack childhood trauma. Also, his TV show sounded super shit and misogynistic

Yep yep yep!!
This is definitely my favorite Mhairi read so far (out of 2). This is an exceptionally funny book. I chuckled (chortled?) while reading this. I loved her usage of peculiar words — it was quirky in a way but I loved it!
I probably would’ve rated this a 5 stars except I didn’t get that feeling reading this book, considering I never deeply related to the characters. I liked them enough to be interested in their story but I didn’t connect to them. ALSO it was definitely a slow start (similar to The Cover Story by her for me but at least I didn’t spend 18 days reading this). I’ll definitely pick up another Mhairi read because of her great humor !

I really liked Matt’s character. I also really enjoyed the main character sleuthing, I thought it kept the story interesting.
