My first time actually reading Arthur Conan Doyle. I'm a fan of most things Sherlock. The writing is good and the cases interesting, but I vacillated between 3 or 4 stars simply because it took me a long time to read. Maybe because each chapter is about a different case, it's more like short stories - nothing to provide a narrative drive.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a serious of short stories about the world's most famous detective. There are a couple stories in here that are premised of racism and don't age well.
I continue to enjoy the books as narrated by Stephen Fry and am a big fan of Sherlock in general. These stories were quite delightful to listen to during my work day and commute. I am sorry find the books at an end. Sherlock and Watson have had quite full character arcs throughout the overall stories and it was enjoyable to hear a couple stories from Sherlock's perspective himself.
Entering the last book in the series, I was beginning to feel like I could spot the culprit and foresee the ending of the stories for the first time. And indeed I did a couple of times. But what's more impressive is that for books so old, some of these twists are not matched or repeated in current whodunit television and movies.
This book is worth the read.

Since I love mystery so much I can't believe it has taken me this long to delve into Sherlock Holmes! But now that I finally have I am definitely looking forward to reading more of his cases. I am also in the mood to watch BBC's Sherlock, which I love. One of the best shows! Anyway, back to the book...
In this particular title Watson gives the reader 11 cases of Sherlock's, including the final case (and days) of Sherlock himself. I love how quirky and smart Sherlock is, how loyal and affable Watson is. I love how well-written Doyle is and how his mysteries are clever and detailed. I also love how the character of Sherlock Holmes and his characteristics have found their way into modern day detectives (Monk, Elementary, Sherlock, etc). I really enjoyed reading this book, love Sherlock Holmes and Watson!

Solid three and a half stars for me. Nothing really to set it apart from other Holmes collection except the last story. It's kind of interesting to see how many liberties the television show has taken with the Moriarty story to make it more "must-see television".
