Only the first four short stories relate to the titular play 'The King in Yellow', and while I enjoyed the spooky twist in the unrelated fifth story, the sixth bored me so badly I could not read further or even finish it.

3.8 would be more accurate. You kinda gotta read it for what it is, and enjoy the weirdness of it.

I have such mixed feelings about these stories. The King in Yellow consists of 10 short stories and 4 of them established The King in Yellow lore we are likely familiar with through H.P. Lovecraft. I originally intended to read all 10, but quickly changed my mind after starting this book and struggling to pay attention. They were well written, but I had to keep rereading parts after zoning-out over and over again. I ended up switching to an audiobook, but still continued to struggle to pay attention. I’m glad I visited them, but probably need to reread them some other time.
i could not get through this, the first few stories are marvellous and wonderfully tense and eerie (especially “the repairer of reputations”) but then the last few stories in this story become such a drag. Very well written but ultimately just boring

Een prima 'horror' boek dat een beetje vaag is, wat op zich past bij het thema. Leest lekker met klassieke muziek op de achtergrond!
