4.5 STARS ...A wonderful story:)...just loved it!...I read a review that stated this book as "Quiet"...and I totally agree.. its hard to explain it...lol..not that this book is slow or boring in any way!!!!...lots happens...I couldnt put it down!...it was emotionally driven...with everybody trying to keep their emotions in check...or trying to break them down....and there are 2 scenes which really stand out for me...packed with so much emotion that I was barely breathing!!
Spoiler That scene where he gives her the necklace...and kisses her neck after..GGAAHH!...
That kiss!...THUD!..(head smacks table)...such an innocent "quiet" scene...but sooo NOT..at the same time!...Loved this book and looking forward to the next one!

4.25

Changing my rating to a 4.25 from a 3 because I’m just now realizing the deeper allegory in this story about Adam (a vicar) and Evie (a former courtesan) in a charming village.

While the villagers have no trouble judging her for rumors of a salacious past, she has no regrets about the choices made to keep her siblings safe. Better yet, Adam appreciates Evie’s past, because those choices have made her the woman he loves today.

This would have been boring in the words of a different writer, but Julie Anne Long spins a good tale and is a master of character development and declarations of love. Part of the Pennyroyal Green series, so reading in order is recommended.

Evie has gone from courtesan to countess and with the recent death of her husband has moved to Pennyroyal Green to try and find a quiet start to her new life. Except quiet is something she is not used to. She enlists the help of the local vicar, Adam, to try and help her make friends. Her reputation proceeds her, though, and Evie has to go through a few trials before the local women will accept her. Adam watches her throughout it all and see her strength and determination. And who she really is behind the face she has cultivated over the years. Evie has never let her heart get in the way of what needed to be done but what she feels for Adam may change that, but can she let it? Another great read from Julie Anne Long in a great series. Can't wait to continue reading!

Finally we got the story of this mysterious sexy vicar with healing powers. And the wait was definitely worth it because this book became one of my favorites of this series, with books 2-3-5. We get the slowest of slow-burns between Vicar Adam Sylvaine & ex-courtesan/from Ireland to St. Giles-Covent Garden to Pennyroyal Green Countess Evie Duggan. I didn't expected such a slow burn from JAL as we have to wait 60% to get a kiss and 80% to get the deed, but she totally delivers here. And our patience pays off. It gaves us the time to know not only the main characters, but also the little community of Pennyroyal Green.

Brilliant installment in this series. Even the sappy happy ending went okay.

A unique story of practicing what one preaches. Enjoyed the calling out of hypocrisy and showing others a second chance. The love story was sweet and touching not judgmental. Laugh out loud moments at the charity auction. Also liked how the vicar reveals how much the toll of taking care of others weighs upon him and how the heroine sees this and values his work. Steam level is mild but the story is so unique I'll give it 5 stars.

Probably the best of the lot so far and the one with the best attention to detail. I liked the juxtaposition of a widowed, ex-mistress (ie fallen woman) countess with the very good, earnest vicar.

With every book I have read in the PennyRoyal Green series by Julie Ann Long, I have been waiting to read Adam’s story. I was stoked when I saw that it was out and I could finally meet his match, and I was not disappointed in the least. Countess Evie Duggan is the perfect counterpart to Pastor Adam Sylvaine.
I loved every aspect of this book: the writing, pacing, dialogue, characters, setting, were all flawless together as a whole. Julie Ann Long has really outdone herself with A Notorious Countess Confesses; the seventh book in The PennyRoyal Green series. Without a doubt, with each book Miss Long just keeps getting better and better at the writing craft, I am sitting on the edge of my seat for book eight in this truly rousing series.

A Notorious Countess Confesses: ★ ★ ★

Julie Anne Long (Pennyroyal Green, #7)

”You are the seal upon my heart. You are the fire and flame that warms me, heals me, burns me. You are the river that cools me and carries me. I love you. And love may be as strong as death, but you … I know now you are my life.”

Julie Anne Long is such a master of wit and the written craft. Her humor is top notch and the banter is just so much fun to read. The writing in this book did not lack at all.

As for the couple, on the other hand, this did more telling than showing so it didn’t really do it for me. I didn’t feel much of a connection between the two as much as I did in It Started With a Scandal, which is for sure my favorite so far.

But I did like Adam & Evie. I think they work well together. I just wish I got to understand more of what made them who they are.

Nevertheless I continue to be a fan of JAL’s work and will be reading more of her books!
