Tombé un peu par hasard sur Proust par un concours de circonstances heureux, je me suis laissé porter par le narrateur à Combray, village de l'enfance, village des vacances.
Dans ce village on fait la connaissance d'une société mondaine en weekend, des précieux ridicules, des bourgeois qui pètent plus haut que leur cul et la vieille Tante qui radote. Cette partie m'a énormément plu tant par la musicalité de la langue, l'accessibilité du texte et les souvenirs retrouvés. C'est une introspection très précise sur les sentiments enfantins oubliés, les terreurs nocturnes.
Pour être honnête, la seconde partie Un amour de Swann m'a bien emmerdée, beaucoup moins musicale et douce que Combray. M Swann est assez détestable et ses tribulations amoureuses sont sans saveurs.
Toutefois, je garde un excellent souvenir de cette lecture et poursuit ma recherche du temps perdu .

An interesting story but difficult to read.
This afternoon I finished the first volume of In Search of Lost Time. I had a madeleine to celebrate and looked back at the photo I took years ago of Proust’s grave when on a visit to Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris.

mostly just impressed with myself that i made it through. while it took me forever, the prose of this book is so easy to get lost in. proust floats you through emotion in such a palpable way. it is unlike anything i’ve ever read. so glad i took the time.
Na Proustův styl je třeba si postupně a s trpělivostí navykat, to se čtenář dozví z každé recenze či předmluvy ke knize a skutečně je tomu tak.
Přes úmorně dlouhá souvětí, často jdoucí proti stylovým zásadám, jsem musel opravdu trpělivě, stránku po stránce, rozjíždět své tempo jako u nějakého těžkopádného mechanismu a uplynulo mnoho stránek, než se tenhle Proustův strojek rozjel mou obvyklou čtenářskou rychlostí.
Ale trpělivost čtenářský zážitek přináší (ne vždy uznávám, ale Proust mi dal v tomhle za pravdu). Úchvatné básnické obrazy, originální a jen těžko něčemu podobná obraznost, novátorské psychologické postřehy odhalující lidskou povahu a slabosti pro mne byli oním čtenářským zážitkem, který mne nasměroval k četbě dalších dílů Proustova vrcholného díla, jež slibuje i zážitek komplexní a jako takové by se tedy mělo dočíst.

I'm glad I took this time. It picked up to more conventional pacing toward the end, but the beginning was all lovely descriptions of a world home by, seen from the eyes of love, at a kid's height.
All of the sidetrack to Swann's courtship of Odette was maybe a bit much, but it also pulled in the adult perspective of that time and place. Altogether, I'm glad I took this time. It made me sit with a thing I'm still processing.

Vissa delar var väldigt bra och givande, men själva "the way by swann" delen tog kål på mig. Har blivit så otroligt uttråkad och har ungefär 120 sidor kvar av detta dravvel. Orkar inte mer, får se om jag vill fortsätta med boken vid något annat tillfälle
