I had this book for years and I’ve never ventured to read it, maybe because of its length, maybe because I felt that Pride & Prejudice left the bar too high for me regarding this genre of novels. Well, now my biggest regret is not reading Emma sooner. It was such a delightful read. At first I found reading it a bit tedious, but the moment I became familiar with the characters and I fully dived into the plot, I couldn’t put it aside. This book is brilliant, the way it’s written, the complicated situations in the plot, the witty dialogues, the irony, the parody, etc. her recognised writing style shines with force in this novel. My favourite part without a doubt was the characters. There are so many and so different between them, but you get to know them in all their psychological depth and with all their complexity, they feel real, every one of them, what makes the novel even more fantastic. I totally understand now why this novel is considered a jewel of the British literature and one of Austen’s best novels.

Quite entertaining, witty and silly book about upper class people's lives and their non-problems. Emma is so wonderfully unlikeable as a character and I really enjoyed the satirical tone of the whole book. However, I also found it a bit long-winded for this moment. I don't read much modern literature of this genre, but the little I've read feels highly influenced by Jane Austen and for that, it's a great book. Worth a read for anyone who enjoys relationship drama and gasping at frivolous events - and I mean this as a good thing.

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE JANE AUSTEN NOVEL TO EVER EXIST!!!
