For this book, here are the pros. There is a 15-18 year gap between this and the last book, so I was certainly nervous that the original characters would lose their original personality, having some seemingly mystical character arc. Or that they would have not changed at all. Neither of those were the case at all.
Monty's development was one of my favorite things in the whole book. I'm gonna be honest, I thought he was pretty unbearable annoying during the first book of the series. I love him to death, but still fucking annoying. In this book, he has obviously matured quite a bit, but he still retained his original character, his wit, and fondness for making every wrong choice in every situation possible. I felt so proud of him and simultaneously wanted to shake him at all times.
The plot was predictably fantastic: predictable because it was just as great as every other book Mackenzi Lee has written. The way she incorporates emotion and theme into her book is so unique and heartwarming. Adrian's anxiety and issues with mental health are so well written and relatable. I read a lot of books with mental health representation, and this was such a distinctive way of portraying it, and something that was very personal to me.
I was immediately endeared to Adrian and Lou, they were so fun and sweet and Iovely. I loved the way they interacted, their relationship, it was just so nice and made me very happy. I have lots of love for each character and could talk for hours about why they are so amazing. I also LOVED to see George again.
The ending was perfect, just so freaking sweet, and a complete ending for each character. It was nice to see everyone one last time.
The only thing I could possibly complain about is I wanted more Percy. He was at the beginning, and the end, but I wanted more. But that's the writer's decision and I understand.
Anyway this book was definitely worth the wait and I just love it so much.
