Really pleasantly surprised by this one! The plot and world building aren’t just interesting but also compelling and complementary to the well-developed characters, ideas, and story. I’m impressed with the ways the author navigated feminist theory and history, staying clear on the story while making it feel in conversation with the characters and reader. I think the ending would benefit from expanding it a LOT- it’s the right way to end it and I loved the last chapter, but leading up to that there’s so much going on in the last act that I wanted to see more of. Occasional moments of cheese or oversimplification that caught my eye but overall this is a smart, empathetic, honest and hopeful story.

This was a very progressive and thought-provoking novel. The audiobook was easy to listen to with such an excellent narrator. Love the LBGTQ+ representation throughout.

For a dystopian novel this book remained positive and was wrapped up pretty well at the end.  I almost anticipated more conflicts along the way but overall the world-building kept me intrigued and reading.
