I've seen the movie adaptations and I've heard millions of people talk about Austen's work but still, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are such charming characters, as well as many others, and I truly think it was a well-crafted story.

This book is a favorite and this is just one of the five or so editions I own. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the art that was placed throughout the pages of this book. Beautiful surprises were hidden between the pages of a story I hold dear! Thank you, Bastin, for the beautiful artwork.

A classic tale I've finally gotten to after years of prodding from friends. A charming enemies to lovers story as Elizabeth Bennett finds herself at odds with the aloof, prideful Mr. Darcy. But as their paths continue to cross, she learns there is more to him than his arrogance, and she may need to reevaluate her first assumptions of him.

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books and I’ve read it many times. It’s a book that my best friend hates and we often talk about whether it’s romantic clap trap (my friends opinion) or a book that was the leading edge of feminism in its day (my opinion). I think people forget that Jane Austen wrote this as a satire; she is making fun of the social atmosphere of the day.

The opening of Pride and Prejudice reads “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” This set the tone for the story and the thinking of the day. Women had a lot fewer options and marring well was a big deal still and considered a good life decision. When the original manuscript was written in the late 18th century a women’s options we few and a women that could read and write was still look upon unfavorably by many; they were referred to as bluestockings and Jane Austen herself had to publish under a pen name because she was a woman. Even though there is a romance that goes through some interesting twists in this book and that is what many people think this book is about its ultimately about women, their expected lot in life and Austen making fun of it. It was books like Pride and Prejudice that was the foundation for women standing up for themselves and women’s rights. Pride and Prejudice is not only one of my favorite books because Darcy had to work for it and learn from his mistakes but also because it’s a great reminder of how far women have come.

Yes I think the romance that happens is sweet but it is Elizabeth that turned down an extremely rich guy, something that would have been shocking for a young lady to do, that I really love. Elizabeth who was willing to follow her own mind and be herself, something that many women would not have braved in that day, that really draws me in. Jane Austen used her books to show women are equals and I thank her for writing that reminder for future generations.

This edition is so pretty. It has a white dust jacket with a beautiful design cut out of it. The under cover is teal and you can see it through the cutouts in the jacket. The font is like a modern novel and larger than the usual one used for classics.
Of course I love Pride and Prejudice. It has aged so well as a classic romance. We follow the story through the eyes of Elizabeth Bennett and her personality and perspective feel very modern to me.
As well as the wonderful main characters there are the satirical side characters that make the world so rich.
I highly recommend this edition to collectors of Jane Austen, as well as those hoping to read a classic for the first time. An entirely enjoyable experience.
