I really enjoyed this book and learned a lot. The book is exactly what the title says, and it delivers well on it. Just the evolutionary history of the Earth in 12 chapters ending with the bleak future due to the impact of man-made climate change.

This book has a large focus on evolution with even a focus on plant evolution in one part. Gee did a great job at describing the process of evolution for every family of species we know, and some that are long gone. I learned so many things that I had no clue about, and it's written in a very accessible way that people without a background in science (like me) can understand. Very great introduction for beginners.

I recommend this to anyone who wants a short introduction to the history of evolution on Earth even though it has a downer ending....
