Mark Twain has done his research well. This is the most extensive biography of Joan of Arc I have ever read. Being an admirer of her bravery, patriotism, and faith (and having to read this for school), I was excited to read it.

Twain seems to have written all the highlights of Joan's life story in a small tome of a little over 300 pages - quite an accomplishment if you ask me. From her life in the little town of Domremy, to God's calling of her to save France from the conquering English, to her unfair trial, sentence, and death overseen by a coldhearted Cauchon, Joan's life is dramatized and told with the reverence and dedication of Mark Twain, who doesn't fail to show his fondness toward the Maid of Orleans in his writing. And who wouldn't? For she embodies the qualities of a person very much needed in this day and age.
