It's always fun to revisit the master of cosmic horror. No one writes like HP Lovecraft. His use of language is uniquely likely to induce nightmares, even daymares if you zone out for too long.

I started reading Lovecraft in high school and have revisted several stories a second time but this is the first time just reading through a collection. The guy's writing holds up well and stories like Herbert West Reanimator and the Call of Cthulu still pack quite a punch. I loved the description of the winged beings flying through the dark of space and of the priestly Cthulu being shredded by the steamer only to reassemble to the horror of the shipmate who would later compile a journal of his voyage to the home of Cthulu and the Great Old Ones in the sunken city of R'lyeh.

Updated with some re-reading I wanted to do after watching ReAnimator for like the 10th time lol.

These works are great! Usually I’m not too fond of classic reads, but I loved Lovecraft’s prose and storytelling. Some stories are far better than others; some were a little lackluster. Regardless, I thought these were very enjoyable and spooky.

I only read “The Call of Cthulhu”, “The Dunwich Horror”, and “The Shadow Over Innsmouth”.

Some stories don't age well. This aged like fresh pork intestines after a day in the sun.

Lovecraft is an expert at creating horrific and grotesque worlds hidden to most humans. In shining a light on these worlds, he pierces the reader with absolute terror! I wish he was less racist, though.
