3.5 - my interest waxed and waned in parts but overall found this an engaging listen. She could be very evocative in parts, really bringing to life what some of these sea voyages (either by Polynesian communities or colonisers) were actually like. I felt she was a little soft on the impacts of colonialism, particularly early in the book, but she did convey the arrogance of colonisers well and towards the end drew on some great Māori (and Polynesian) historians and other sources to critique perspectives.
