Y’all need to give this a read, overall it was GREAT. A fine ass man coveting after a woman that is his “omega”. Now lemme just say, slow burns aren’t my thing but the suspense was pissing me off but also making me enjoy it more???
Isavelle was PISSING me off! (Which made me like the book more) Fuck you mean that you won’t let that man cherish the fuck outta you? I get that the Brethran have condemned women for less, but if your man tells you to cum thinking of him and you want it, fucking do it. Also, if that bitch Isavella doesn’t let that man get her “slick” all over him, she’s a pussy.

Oooooh starting the year off REAL strong. (Should I read more omegaverse books this year…?) The burn was deliciously, excruciatingly slow.
However, come on now, Odanna was OBviously the bad guy from that very first Brethren interaction, and Stesha recognizing her scent? PLUS the guy in the vision was obviously not Zavriel. You’re smarter than this, Isavelle. Or at least I am 🙄
Need more of all of it! More dragons, more developing
witchy powers
, more
emerging designations and ~finalizing~ the mating bond.

I do love dragons! This is an interesting world, the set up for the cliffhanger was clear and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

At the beginning I felt Isavelle and Zabriel were very stilted and slightly jarring, but that settled. I love Esmeral. I really hope nothing happens to her!

It's got reasonable world building, I guess we will learn more about how they were locked in the mountain, but I feel like Isavelle could have asked more questions.

I also have to say, their names feel a bit lazy. Just changing one letter in a name drove me a little nuts.

I enjoyed the different take on omega behaviours with the designation being almost like a different person inside. I hope Isavelle will continue to be strong and determined despite the fact she is letting her omega out more and more. But I really liked that although there was the insta love angle for Zabriel it wasn't pushed and he really did allow her space to decide for herself and it really was a slow burn in a way that felt natural.

I did really enjoy it and from about 50% in I was sold that this is a series I am going to get invested in. I really hope we don't have to wait till next June for the next one!

I'm a big fan of epic fantasy (the swords and sorcery type) and this was my first romance fantasy, and first experience of an alpha/omega storyline.

It was refreshing to read something romantic which has an epic scale and I didn't mind the cliffhanger. I found the pacing of the book slightly off - the first half or more raced by but then I got bogged down with nothing happening and I had to push through, finally the ending felt a bit rushed.

The world-building was excellent and I can see how this might develop in the rest of the trilogy. The dragons were fantastic characters - I would have liked even more of them! Zabriel is, in many ways, quite a typical fantasy hero golden boy who is almost too good to be true. Isavelle is sweet but willful and pretty naive. I found her a bit annoying at times. I'm not sure the omega dynamic is something I would choose to read regularly, it's kind of cloying.

Maybe it sounds like I'm being a bit negative? I don't mean to be. Overall, I really enjoyed this and think book one set the foundations for a fantastic trilogy. I was engaged and intrigued by the world, invested in uncovering the various mysteries and liked the characters (I hope some of the side characters get more air time going forward as I think they have loads of potential).

Literally checked my boxes to a T on good omegaverse

I really enjoyed this for the most part.

I liked Isavelle a lot and really enjoyed her character journey.

Zabriel I mostly liked. I wasn’t a fan of him keeping info from Isavelle. I really felt like he could have told her things that would have helped her acclimatise easier. The only reason he didn’t seemed to be ‘plot reasons’ instead of a legit reason.

The slow burn was delicious and I loved how they got to know each other and trust each other and how consent was such a huge part of their relationship.

I guessed the two major twists, and, honestly, I feel like things were happening that should have been given more prominence by Zabriel, instead of thinking a lot about sex and Isavelle. Like, instead of beating the shit out of Stesha, maybe work out why he was smelling Isavelle’s hair and then you might have been able to figure things out quicker and kept her safe.

It was just annoying.

Also, how did no-one think about who could be the Shadow King?? Like, I knew who it was as soon as they got mentioned in the story. Considering how Zabriel and others slept for 500 years and don’t know exactly what happened, someone else being able to survive 500 years doesn’t seem that bizarre.

I will read the second book. Eventually.

DNF at 35%. I was just bored and life is far too short to read books that bore you. Also, the dialogue is so stilted and felt far too modern for a book that’s supposedly set in a medieval fantasy world.

Adding 'Flame King' to my Christmas list 🎄because Zabriel says all of the beautiful things.

I honestly wasn't sure what I was expecting going in considering this was a spur of the moment, mood read thing. However, I was pleasantly suprised by the world building and characters. And who doesn't love dragons?

The cliffhanger is so bad you immediately have to pick the next book up. (Which I did.) 😂
