Mixed opinions on this one. Very distinctive character, different writing style from the Temperance Brennan books, and a new twist on a common suspense plot. The sentence fragments started to wear on me though, and at times she was so blase it became annoying.

Thanks to Netgally, the publisher and Kathy Reichs, I received an advanced copy of this book.
Former military and police, Sunday "Sunnie" Night now spends most of her days as a recluse living on a small SC island. Still coming to grips from her tragic past and an injury to her eye that forced her retirement, Sunnie likes the quiet life. When a pal drops an offer on her plate -a wealthy woman searching for her missing granddaughter - Sunnie accepts the job. The case reminds her too much of her past.
Sunnie begins a cross-country hunt that has her fighting for her life and dealing with drudged up memories of her past. Is the granddaughter still alive? Can Sunnie find her?
I really enjoyed the book. It was so different from the Tempe Brennan books and I liked that. It was dark, but I couldn't put it down. I thought Sunnie was such a badass. I hope there's more books in the future.

A great suspenseful read. I really enjoyed the mystery and suspense. I enjoyed Sunny and her blunt, no Fs given attitude. With a setting primarily between Isles of Palms, South Carolina & Chicago I could see most places in my head. I love both of these settings. Murder, abduction, lots of money, and one woman trying to take down a terrorist faction. Highly recommended.
Sunday "Sunnie" Night is trying to ignore past traumas in her life by isolating herself and burying her emotions. But when a young girl disappears, Sunnie is compelled to help the family and find out the truth about their daughter.
"Two Nights" is by the author of the Temperance Brennan series, but Sunnie reminds me more of Betty Webb's private investigator Lena Jones than Tempe. Like Lena, Sunnie has a troubled past, is extremely independent, and doesn't always play by the rules. She is a smart investigator, determined to solve the case, even if it means facing her past.
The story is suspenseful, and sometimes puzzling, but very entertaining. It's always nice to be surprised when reading a mystery, and the book had a few twists I didn't see coming. Sunnie isn't as appealing of a character as the novel version of Reich's Brennan, but is a unique character in a mystery that kept my interest throughout the book.

This is a new series, I think anyway, by this author. I actually picked this one because I have read and enjoyed all of the Tempe Brennan books. I was expecting something maybe along those lines but I was wrong. Sunday Night is nothing at all what I thought she would be like, which is actually fine and does work well for this book. To say that I loved this new character is wrong, I was not crazy about Sunday Night, I actually liked August "Gus" Night better. Sunday is a bit too much of everything, in my opinion, too angry , too ballsy , too tough acting , she almost comes off as trying too hard to be this gritty hard as nails bad ass woman. The plot itself, find the granddaughter, kidnapped in an explosion, of a cantankerous wealthy older woman who hates everyone was a bit slow for me. Sunday is racing against time to stop another bomb plot and find the people responsible. This sounds like it would be fast paced and exciting but it fell short for me. Sure the story line and characters are solid as pertains to the plot and the book itself is very well written and a quick read so for that gave it three stars.
I am not sure if there is another book in this series I will read it but who knows. This was fast paced and a solid plot but for me it did not really work. This review was originally posted on Cindy's Book Binge

Good Book. I'm kind of ticked off this is a one off. Sunny is a really great mess of a character. Gus gives her some balance. Good plot. Really need more of Sunny and her brother Gus.
I enjoyed this book. For some reason I thought that there was a romance aspect to it so I kept waiting for it to happen but it obviously never did because this book has no romance in it. Totally my bad for that. I did really like the story and it was pretty fast paced. The ending was kind of disappointing though. I felt like the main character could have had more development throughout the book. The characters seemed kind of vague. Overall, i enjoyed it but it's kind of forgettable. 3/5.
