I realize that the book is a product of the attitudes of its times, but the patronizing portrayal of the Congolese, and the casual slaughter of animals are both a bit much to take
But now I've read every single Tintin book! So sad!

Plot
As much as I like Tintin, this one was tough. It was written in the 1930s with a traditional Belgian view of the time on colonialism. In today's context, it feels severly outdated. It basically depicts the Congolese population as stupid, and shows it as achievements to blow up a rhino with dynamite or kill an ape to use its skin as disguise.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Racism, Colonisation
Moderate: Violence, Religious bigotry
It's a good album, not the best at all. Of course we can talk about the obvious problem of this album, racism. But I think we need to remember that it was written decades before our age, of course it would be unacceptable if someone wrote that today, but it was acceptable when Hergé wrote it. To sum up, not my favorite but not a bad one
