Not too sure how I felt about this one, for once I wish it wasn’t so rushed into a standalone under 400 pages

Loved it! Was team Atakan from the beginning! Always knew he was putting on a show being a dick to Mildred. Loved the HEA!

Was this book good? Not really. Does it get an extra star for at least being entertaining? Sure. I liked that our FMC is not just some helpless princess, but will stand up to the men in her life and scheme to survive. I do wish that she had done a little bit more herself in this book, as she was still too much of a pawn for me. As far as the men go, they both suck and I at no point believed that there was actual love between Mildred and either one of them, except for the tiniest little hint of it, maybe, waaaay at the end (like 95% in). I was excited at first because I was getting “This is My Idea” from the Swan Princess vibes at the beginning, but I just needed a bit more hints along the way that Atakan wasn’t just an entire ass.

2.75 stars.

The plot was really addictive in the beginning, and I genuinely found it interesting, but the romance and the ending didn’t do it for me at all.

I love villainous MMCs, but Atakan just wasn’t it.
I felt like the love story between the two main characters was underdeveloped and underwhelming, and I couldn’t, for the life of me, care about this couple at all.
The execution of the romance in this book was mediocre at best, and I genuinely disliked the MMC, who was written more like a middle school bully.

The way the plot resolved was also lazy, in my opinion, and I thought “so that’s it?”.

It’s also worth mentioning that I slugged through the last ~20% of the book. I don’t know, I’m a bit disappointed. :-/

This was fun! If you like a dark spicy romance with many twist and turns this standalone is for you. Honestly I don’t have any complaints.

This was good but I didn't love it. A half-faerie/human princess is in an arranged marriage to the Seelie Prince. He is known as The Heartless and so Mildred decides the only way to survive him, is to play his game. Atakan and Mildred begin a game of dares and bluffs as the war with the Unseelie continue despite wards placed to trap them in their lands. Then Mildred is whisked away to the Unseelie court and the King there needs her love to the break wards. And then it becomes a different game Mildred needs to play. Can't say that I ever really felt like King Vane was trying hard enough to actually win her love. Basically, everyone is morally grey to just straight up ruthless, and that works but, it was missing something for me.
