Wild at Heart picks up immediately where The Simple Wild leaves off - Calla is in Toronto and Jonah is visiting her. Calla decides at the last minute that yes, she does wants to move to Alaska and start a life with Jonah.

I love Jonah. I love that he's open about his wants/needs. He knows who he is and is trying to be accommodating to Calla. I love the new cast of characters - Muriel was perfect to get Calla doing things she didn't want to do. Toby was a fun friend addition and I really liked Roy. Everyone seemed too nice and he was that wild card and I knew him and Calla would bond.

I was really annoyed with Calla because her actions and thoughts were conflicting. You could tell she was really just hung up on one issue and because she didn't say anything, it ballooned into something bigger. I was also annoyed with a Jonah and Marie issue. I think that's the only time I didn't like Jonah.

I also didn't like the event at the end of the book. There was a lot that happened in this book and it seemed like Tucker wanted to be like oh! let's add in one more big thing before finishing off the book. I can see how the event was beneficial to other relationships, but overall it seemed like an unnecessary cherry on top.

Overall, I really loved this book and I'm so glad I'm starting the year with it. I missed Calla and Jonah. I liked seeing more growth from Calla. I also found it nice and refreshing how they both chose to apologize. They're both stubborn people and I think it's important to show that both people can be in the wrong.

At first, I was afraid that I might not like the second book and would rather it be a standalone, but I was wrong.

The second book is definitely better. The character development, the conflicts, the relationship and friendship just make it enjoyable to read. I appreciate it so much.

I love seeing Calla efforts trying to make herself feel at home far away from her confort zone and also build relationships with others.

This book was absolutely miserable to read. Especially the second half of it. It was filled with sadness and loneliness and feeling left out. It was not bad at all, and if you're in the mood for something emotional like that then it's actually amazing because Calla's feelings were written perfectly well, I cried more than once. But then again I was quite miserable and had to sit down just to think through my feelings after reading this. It was very engaging, though, so it's hard to put the book down.

This is the second book of a series and I personally don't even think of the first book as a strictly romance book, this one's even further from being a romance book! It has themes like family, community, grief, etc. but Calla and Jonah's relationship is kinda in the background. Of course Jonah spent more time in the air and Calla had to learn to be alone, gardening, cooking, being their own accountant, and socializing with other villagers. Like, this isn't a bad book but I wasn't here to read about these things. There's a villager who's kind of a busybody that intrudes upon other's business. She means well and I think it's pretty realistic. There's always that kind of people in a small town trying to keep the community together. But I can't help feeling annoyed whenever she comes in.

If you're looking for a steamy romance, this isn't it. There are a lot of scenes alluding to sex scenes but they're pretty much "behind closed doors". There are also problems within their relationship, obviously. Which is why I think this is quite a sad story overall. In conclusion, this is even less of a romance compared to the first book. Not a bad book per se, but not a romance, nor it is a lighthearted book.

I have to say, I'm really loving romance sequels where we get to see the couple's relationship grow and develop. I almost forgot how much I love Calla and Jonah, and seeing them again felt like visiting old friends. Even when they're working through the harder relationship discussions, it was a joy to watch them both grow. It makes me want to convince my bf to move to Alaska and live in a log cabin with a gorgeous mountain view and private lake (or I guess move to B.C. since I would never leave Canada for the USA). The new characters were lovable and I think Tucker really captured that tiny, close-knit community feel of Trapper's Crossing. I look forward to rereading both books in the future.
