emotional reflective sad

One of the few novels written by a man who I believe really captured the inner workings of the female mind. The connections he weaves between our three women blend together to create one devastating story. LOLZ I know my own mental health is fragile at this time because every sentence PUNCHED me right in the gut. To be a woman...

In short, I would say: Watch the movie, then read this book.

I read this after watching the movie. I definitely liked the movie better, however, the book gives a lot of extra insight into the main characters' mindsets so that is helpful. I'd like to watch the movie again now that I know exactly what the characters were thinking. I say that the book gives insight, and it does, but at the same time, it feels like the movie gave more information in a way. I had an easier time connecting to the characters in their movie form rather than in print. Almost like the book couldn't do the movie justice.

I am the type that prefers dialouge which you don't get a whole lot of in this book. It's mostly reflective. There were also some metaphors that I had to read several times and really reflect on to get. But, since this was a just-for-fun read, sometimes I just kept reading even though I didn't fully grasp what Cunningham was trying to say. I'm glad I watched the movie first b/c I might have been inclined to put the book down and walk away without knowing that something interesting would happen. It's short so it's a quick read but the pace is pretty slow.

good, felt very tender about child richie. not sure if the “twist” paid off for me. i think more risks could have been taken with the language—which is what i always come back to with mrs. dalloway.
