I read this book in a day and I absolutely adored it. The writing style and the world created felt almost nostalgic to me in some odd way that I cannot put in words. I found the characters lovable even if a few were slightly irritating, and the plot moved at a nice pace.

The main gripe I had with the book is that there wasn't enough character devolopment. I felt like it was a little more plot driven in that aspect as we don't truly get to discover why the characters needs developed the way they did. I just feel as though there are quite a few questions about the characters and the world that weren't answered.

Overall a nice read! Definitely enjoyed it!

Answering an advert for bloodmaid, Marion finds herself swept up to the North, leaving the slums she refuses to die in behind her. The life of a bloodmaid is everything Marion wanted, never feeling cold, hungry or the lack of a roof over her head. After falling in love with Lisavet, the lady of the house and woman she serves, Marion discovers this cushy life is not everything she thought.

The plot was such a mess. I am normally all here for no plot just vibes, but there has to be some character work too. I will give it the vibes were immaculate, but the set dressings had more life than the characters. Marion's wants and needs changed so quickly without the work put in to understand why. The obsession that consumed her didn't make sense from the interactions between the characters and there wasn't enough explanation if it was supposed to be a thrall sort of situation. Just suddenly she was 100% down bad for Lisavet. The hot and cold relationship between her and the bloodmaids was so tiresome because there was nothing there to make me care. I just genuinely didn't care at all. Every time it seemed like there was a build up to something, it went the opposite direction with no sense at all. There was a lot of info dumps in the form of verbal explanations from characters during conversation rather than letting the world build out naturally.
