A lighthearted fun enemies to reluctant friends to lovers romance that was funny, sad and feel-good with a happily-ever-after full of promise and love. Planing her bestfriends wedding should not have to include pandering to her brother that hates her and seems to want to do her job for her, better even than she does it. Rolling over though is not part of her make up and she will plan the perfect wedding despite his interference. Falling for him was not on the agenda! Hoping he can open up to love and giving her his heart is going to be an uphill battle and she may not come out on top. Five star read for me ❤

Love on Beach Avenue has been on my KU TBR for such a long time, and I was so excited to read it. I'm not a fan of enemies to lovers, but I never let that stop me from reading books, and I don't take away stars because of it, because there are so many that I do actually love. This book unfortunately was not one that I loved in the end. There were things I liked about this book (mostly that it set up the next books in the series, and that I was able to listen to it for free with KU) but ultimately this book was not for me. I didn't really care for either MC (but I will say that I have now read the other two books in this series and I like them much better as secondary characters), and I honestly didn't believe they found love. This book is every reason I don't love enemies to lovers, the switch from hating each other to falling in love was too quick and unbelievable. Once they had a kiss, it was instalovey from there, but then came the conflict (the hero never wanted to be in a relationship or to have children, but the heroine absolutely couldn't live without it, he was going back to the city and she was never leaving Cape May). This may be a me thing, but I found myself scoffing a lot in this book at the fat jabs. I get that this is based on a bridal business and a lot of women "shred for the wedding", but there were so many times when our heroine (not the bride), would mention that maybe she should stop eating so many croissants, or say something to the effect that she should loose weight, but she was described as thin in the beginning of the book. There was a time when the hero was talking with his sister about her dress and she ask if she's fat (she is also described as thin in the beginning) and he makes a big show of having her spin, just to tell her no. It just felt like it was unnecessary. Also unnecessary was the conversation about why big, strong, manly Carter would have a "girly" dog (a very spoiled Yorkie named Lucy). Again I'm sure it was just a me thing, but I found myself rolling my eyes a lot.

I truly love a Jennifer Probst books. Her story telling makes you feel like you're in the book with characters that you can relate too and easily fall in love with. She always has the perfect balance of heat, humor, romance and drama which will keep you reading.
That being said I loved this book and I can't wait to find out what's in store for the next sister!!

Loved it!

Started reading it during a very rare occurrence - a moment of peace and quiet during a much needed pedicure (lol). Ended up finishing the book in three days. The characters completely drew me in and I couldn’t help but to root for a happy ending and almost coming to tears with them in the end.
I think I’ll read another book in the Sunshine Series next!

This was a light-hearted romcom that unfortunately was very predictable and slow. I enjoyed parts of it but most of the time I was counting down the pages until it was finished, hoping for some sudden twist that would capture my attention. None of the events in the book surprised me in any way so I was utterly disappointed.

Perfect romance

While the story was a little predictable, it had all the emotions. I laughed, I cried, I celebrated with the characters. This is a great book to get lost in. I’m looking forward to seeing these characters in the rest of the series!

This is a typical romance novel that I only read because it takes place in Cape May, NJ which is my favorite vacation spot. When I saw the ad for the book fly by on a banner plane during my vacation I had to buy it.

While I did enjoy the familiar setting and the name dropping of so many familiar businesses the actual romance left me cold. I didn’t particularly like either of the main characters.

I was really excited to see Love on Beach Avenue as a First Reads Choice, first because a romance was offered as a selection, and secondly because I tend to enjoy JP's stories. Sadly, this book was more miss than hit for me.

I'll start with what I loved:
*I loved getting such strong visuals of Cape May and the locals that worked at the various businesses. I'm hoping there will be more interactions with the locals as the series progresses.
*The Sunshine Sisters-I really felt as though the sisterly relationship was portrayed in a very real way. The good and the bad both rang true for me and I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing each of the sisters find their own happily ever after. I'll be honest. Taylor stole the show for me and I'm really looking forward to her book most!

What didn't work for me: I had a hard time believing in the relationship between this couple. While they shared their narrow-minded focus on work, and they both were devoted to their families, I just didn't get much from them beyond the physical connection. Quite honestly, I wondered how a strong, competent woman could fall for someone that seemed to take great pleasure in putting her down. Straight out of the gate, I had a very strong dislike for the hero of this story. His taunting of the heroine and her ability to perform her job were insulting, and quite frankly I don't think he did enough to make up for his bad attitude towards her during the first half of the book.
I'll include a few of the other things that stood out to me in the spoilers below.

SpoilerThere was an instance when the hero proclaimed it was "okay to break the law" to suit his needs in regards to pulling strings to have his dog certified as a therapy dog so he could take her everywhere with him. I'm sorry, but the author got this 100% wrong. Therapy dogs are not "allowed everywhere" just because they wear a vest. Ideally, that would be service dogs, covered by ADA legislation. Quite frankly, people that share the attitude of the hero are the reason so many issues and miscommunications concerning service vs therapy dogs exist. I was really disappointed to see this situation written in such a distasteful way, especially by an author I trust. A little research would have gone a long way in avoiding such an error. It may seem trivial, but to those familiar and affected by those issues, this small passage was a complete slap in the face.

Another issue I had was the constant commentary on dieting. It came from the heroine and her best friend and I hated every word of it. If you're going to write that women can eat what they want without the guilt, then let the women do it already! Just, enough already. I'll be honest, when Ally called her brother and asked if she looked fat, because she was worried married life may have been a little to good to her body, I was appalled!

Lastly, there were some gender stereotypes that really hit the wrong note with me. One glaring incident was when Gabe explained that he dealt with women hitting on him by pretending to be gay. He'd simply flirt with another male, but he didn't think that male would be bothered since he was gay. Nope. Hard NOPE on this one. If that male didn't consent to be used in this way (and it was not stated that he had given his consent), then this behavior is problematic.

I went into this story really excited about a new series, and while this book didn't hit the mark for me, I am still looking forward to future books. At this point, this book isn't one I'd recommend without a word of warning first.

I’m a huge fan of Jennifer Probst! With every release, I run out and buy a copy and enjoy the ride of emotions and giggles. This was another amazing book! I fell in love with all the characters, whom all had engaging personalities for me.
This book was full of amusement for me with the back and forth snark of Avery and Carter. It was another book that easily roped me in and had me captivated.
I once again will be ‘patiently’ waiting for the next book in this series. I can’t wait to read more about all the characters and see where they all go.
