This book definitely dealt with some of the heaviest themes of the series. I didn’t think we could get any darker than Remo and Nino’s books but this one really took the cake. Spoilers/Triggers for: <sexual assault, rape, pedophilia, and canon typical violence>. Non spoiler review, I think this book had some of the most interesting characters and dynamics yet. Darina was a great heroine and I loved her character. I will admit that I really struggled with the themes of this book. I think it was handled fairly well but I probably won’t be able to reread this book anytime soon. There were several moments where I set the book down and then came back to it.
In terms of plot, I do think the pacing was a little odd at certain moments. The relationship felt a little rushed at the beginning and then once we discovered Darina’s past, that became the entire plot and focus. I don’t have any issue with that but it didn’t flow as well as other books in the series. That said, after Savio’s book I think this was a GOD SEND. I’ll have to write down a more nuanced review when I’m not coming off my immediate book high. I enjoyed myself but I wish we had gotten to see more of Adamo. He didn’t feel quite like the Adamo we knew from the previous books and I have to admit that a lot of his character choices did not at all align with the previous books. This book felt heavily removed from the previous books because none of those plots came into play or mattered to this book. Adamo has a past and it just did not feature in this book lmao. That said, I think Dinara was a strong enough character to have carried this well enough. I also have to assume we will be seeing more of the Bratva so that’s probably why she popped up here.
