It was the first book I read by Robyn Carr. It chronicles life in Grace Valley, a small town in CA. We learn about the day to day happenings of the residents and Dr. June Hudson. She is very likable as a character. There is very little romance in this book, so from that sense it disappointed. I am not sure I will continue reading the rest of the trilogy.
Although, I put this in the romance category I'd say its more a story about a small town and it's residence with a bit of romance mixed in.
I very much enjoyed this novel, the town held itself responsible for it's failing and set to put themselves on the right path.
The daughter of the town doctor, June Hudson grew up in Grace Valley. Now she's the town's doctor, and she's looking for help.
I give this book 4 stars, of all the small town books I've read lately I liked this one best

I realize that this book was published in 2000 but it is very much a 90s romance. June Hudson grew up in Grace Valley and became a doctor just like her dad. she started out by studying to be a nurse but then, with the permission of her father and her (male) advisor, she went into med school. Now she's single in a place where you need to claim your husband by seventh grade if you want to get married. At 37, her biological clock is ticking (blergh).
She's also looking for another doctor to help out in the clinic. She hires John Stone, a handsome OB-GYN who seems perfect. Except that he's not. But maybe he is? I get her trying to figure out what was going on but it really was quite annoying and came across more as dithering than consternation and lessened my trust in June as a heroine with a strong POV.
And her "romance" is way too fast. I am definitely going to try the second book in this series so maybe it extends over more than one book.

Not as good as Virgin River series but it was a good foundation for all of the series that followed.
All the issues from about 4 Virgin River series books wrapped into 1 book with about half the relationship.
now how can I possibly criticize this book? I would feel like a grinch to perhaps suggest that this book is a bit sweet, syrupy, and happily ever after, even for my tastes. So I couldn't criticize it, out of a desire not to feel like a jerk. I will admit, however, that to call this book cluttered with characters would be downplaying it. it was really hard for me to keep up with who all the minor characters were. I liked how June and Jim played out, despite how little of the book time they got. I liked the setting, and it made me miss California. I'm mildly curious about the rest of the trilogy. but not yet. I still need to recover from the overabundance of sweetness and happily ever after. I don't want cavities, after all.
One of the best small town romance. I love this series.
