Virginia Woolf's first published work. It's so interesting to see what ideas and metaphors continued throughout her later novels! But overall, although it had some very good reflections, it was a tad too long and plot-less for me. I was very happy to have read it and for it to end.

Read for thesis research, so will just say this is my favourite of Woolf's novels.

Treading softly between lucidity and sonambulance. Woolf's experimentation with ways of expressing consciousness, and her impressionistic style of writing, emerge here and there. For the most part revolves around the everyday life of middle/upper-class British travellors in South America, punctured by fits of dream-like intensity or suspension. As in a voyage, the journey left me a little melancholy and tinged with a faint, subdued nausea.

Like walking in deep snow.

I wanted to slap all of these characters for most of the story (with the exception of Miss Allen but she's on thin ice.)

"Did love begin in that way, with the wish to go on talking?"
