The first half was 3 stars and the second half--when Duncan and Gemma really join the story was 4 stars. Probably my least favorite in the series so far. When I read a series, I want to have my main characters in the story since they are what keep me coming back for more!

I really like this series, but this book was a bit of a dud for me. There was some weird paranormal stuff that didn't really work for me, and I thought the reveal at the end was a reach. That being said, I blew through the last half quickly because I wanted to see how it would end, so obviously I didn't hate it. And I really like Gemma and Duncan and following where their relationship goes.

Very much enjoyed this - my first one of this series, but well written and interesting. Felt like I was coming into this midstory - particularly the relationship between Gemma and Duncan. But liked the setting in Glastonbury, and found the interactions of all the characters very intriguing.

Full of tedious mystical mubo-jumbo and the unfathomable fixation on a small hill (Glastonbury Tor), I just skimmed this one for the developments in Duncan & Gemma's lives, not the woo-woo murder mystery that I could not give a fetid dingo kidney about.

Read in conjunction with [b:Murder In Thrall|17165237|Murder In Thrall (Scotland Yard #1)|Anne Cleeland|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1361745847s/17165237.jpg|23591961] for a mystery book club, this is the seventh book in the series featuring Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James -- two Scotland Yard police officers who have a personal relationship outside of work. In this book, the two are dating but Gemma's recent promotion at work and other factors threaten to cause tension in their relationship. The two main characters in the other book are also co-workers who have entered into a personal relationship but that is where the similarities end. I very much enjoyed this book and the relationship dynamic between Duncan and Gemma. I've only read one other book in this series -- a more recent one -- and know that I'll enjoy this series based on the two books I've read so far. The mystery and personal aspects were equally compelling to me. Most of the action in this offering takes place in Glastonbury and draws on the ancient mysteries that surround the town. Duncan's cousin asks him to come to Glastonbury after his significant other is hurt and another townsperson is found murdered. Suspects abound and ancient secrets factor into the modern day mystery. This is a great pick for anyone who enjoys history and mystery.
