Having been through several relocations myself as immigrant, expat, repatriated, work visaed, and soon to be overseas retired in multiple countries, so much of this book touches me and speaks to me on multiple levels, including race as a western (American) construct. Some of it is obviously only what I can imagine or empathize with since I’m not Black, but it was illuminating to me in many ways because of that reason too. Brilliant!

i really really liked this one!! again, the way that adichie writes about characters is so real and so raw and the experience of race in predominantly white institutions is something that was so honest and so real and so necessary!! this book made me smile and made my heart ache when necessary and reminded me how much i love love (sidenote: the tenderness with which such impassioned emotion is spoken about is both so gentle and so moving that i genuinely had to take a second)

“I'm chasing you. I'm going to chase you until you give this a chance.”

I feel like this book covers similar topics to Home Fire, and does them better. I found myself relating to the discussions around race and privilege a lot. The writing style is easy to read, and once you get into this book, you really get invested in all the characters and side characters and their journeys through navigating life in America, UK and Nigeria. It's an interesting book.
