In a market flooded with self improvement books this book falls incredibly short. Poorly written, mainly anecdotal stories. The writing is convoluted and hard to follow and the book is about 3 times longer than it needs to be.

Interesting concept, but presented in a bland "motivational" style that was a bit off-putting.

Longer than it probably needs to be, mostly just similar stories about athletes and successful people. The core of the 'Alter Ego' idea is interesting and does seem to have some merit.

It took me forever to finish listening to this - and I can't for the life of me remember how I came across it in the first place - but I do think it's worthwhile. There's some solid ideas in here, surrounded by reasonably interesting vignettes. Useful for anyone in need of some performance coaching, and more generally, has some techniques that could be used in day-to-day life.

I do wish there had been a tl:dr; version though--that's definitely something I'd refer back to.

I enjoyed the book and learned a lot about the alter ego effect, although I didn't like how the author is constantly talking about how experienced he is in the field of peak performance. And all the great athletes he coached, I don't think we need this information repeated throughout the book. Also, the fact that he didn't mention the work of psychologists on this subject or how alter ego has been used throughout history by great minds, it makes me feel like the author doesn't know much about what he is talking about. Which bothered me!
Other than that it's a good read.
