First reread of Percy Jackson since middle school! I was so worried that The Lightning Thief wouldn't live up to my memory of it, but it is still one of my favorite books and Percy is the same sarcastic, funny, lovable protagonist that I remembered. Can't wait to read the next one!

Sorry I took so long to make a review! I may or may not have forgotten to... :D

"The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan is a super cool book about a kid named Percy Jackson. He finds out he's a demigod, which means he's half-god, half-human. Suddenly, he's in this wild world of Greek gods, monsters, and dangerous quests. It's like a big adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat!

What's awesome about this book is how it mixes old Greek stories with our world today. You get to meet gods walking around in regular clothes, scary monsters popping up in unexpected places, and Percy trying to save the world. He's a really funny and brave hero, and he's got friends like Grover and Annabeth who help him out.

The story moves super fast, and there are so many exciting parts that make you want to keep reading. It's like a roller-coaster with lots of surprises! You never know what's coming next, and that makes it really fun. Plus, there's a mix of funny moments and times when you're holding your breath because the action is so intense.

Overall, "The Lightning Thief" is an awesome book that mixes Greek myths with a modern adventure. Rick Riordan makes everything so exciting with cool characters and a story that's both funny and full of suspense. If you like thrilling adventures and stories about friendship and bravery, this book is totally for you!

Captivating, witty and refreshing. I absolutely enjoyed The Lightning Thief and I can’t wait to read the next book!

The author’s approach on Greek mythology is somewhat original and fascinating and the explanations given for certain events actually fit with our knowledge, resulting in a very believable story.

Funny enough, the only thing I had a hard time believing was Percy’s extended knowledge about Greek mythology; even if he had learned a few things in his Latin classes (another thing I don’t understand is why ancient Greek culture was so prominent in Percy’s Latin class…) he seemed way too knowledgeable for a 12-year-old! But I understand that — given he’s the narrator — he obviously needs that knowledge to explain some aspects of the story to the reader.

3.5 stars rounded up. I just went and read some one-star reviews of this, and seeing that the PJ stans on here will come for even the slightest negative review as fast as Swifties will come for anyone remotely critical of their girl, well:

all I'll say is that I don't care for Rick Riordon's writing based on this book, Percy is an okay character, I've never been into Greek mythology (but liked how it was integrated into this book), and that I won't be continuing this series. I like other YA series so much better, so I'll focus on those.

I am not the target audience but for the target audience this would be a wonderful story. I do enjoy the premise and can appreciate what Riordan is trying to do with his characters.
