I met Mr. Kitchen at the Market in St. John's last summer. He was really enthusiastic when talking about his work and about logging in general. The book itself brought back a lot of memories of both tree planting in northern B.C., and of my grandfather's stories about logging in the 1950s around Corner Brook.
It's a really great insight into what outport communities were like in Newfoundland in the early 20th century, a great look into the logging industry and the hardships of the men who worked there, and a generally good read about the time period in general. I really enjoyed it.
