An intriguing character study focused on the ways we train ourselves to look away from the unbearable. The prose is an easy read, and the narrator's voice is conversational and casual, but I found the story slow despite the novella length, which was also too short to really provide closure. I went into the book expecting a supernatural or surprise element of some sort, and was disappointed when there wasn't really one; the twist was not surprising to me. All in all, 2.5 stars

This is a super uncomfortable read and then it just ends. The conflict we start with and the conflict we end with could be two different books entirely, and neither is resolved.

The concept was so interesting. That was what made the book redeemable for me a bit. I understand that the author was trying to portray the harmful effects of such a job. However, this was not done well. I found it terribly hard to care about any of the characters because I hardly felt like I knew who any of them were. They weren’t flushed out well (to be fair though, this was a very short book). Some pieces felt unnecessarily convoluted and the ending was just… what? It wasn’t poetic or hard hitting, even with some reflection.. It just felt like a chunk of the book was missing.

A very short, strange book. It’s told from the perspective of a late-twenties lesbian working as a content moderator for an unnamed media conglomerate (such as Meta), and mostly details the rise and fall of her relationship with one of her coworkers. I liked the premise and the writing style (second person - the whole book is written as a response to the lawyer representing her former coworkers in a suit against the company for hazardous working conditions) quite a lot, and was riveted / quick to finish after I had started it. But the open ending…. So abrupt and so strange. I don’t hate it (
I do love an unreliable narrator and this is one of the most extreme examples I’ve read of revealing the unreliability of the narrator, who may have SA-ed her ex gf??
) but I don’t love it either. I have a lot of questions. I think this idea could have been fleshed out into a longer novel. I’m not sure I would recommend due to the trigger warnings and unsatisfying ending, but I’m glad I read it!

An interesting look at content moderators who review the worst things people put onto the internet, and how becoming desensitised to such content might affect their own sense of morality. The concept was super intriguing but the execution felt very rushed. There were a lot of different topics and themes covered that could have had more time spent on them, and the open ending felt anticlimactic and unfinished, like the author just didn’t know how to end the book.

An interesting book where I understand that what it's trying to do is show the different ways that being a content moderator, in the vein of the extreme conditions ie facebook, affects people and how lack of proper support alongside forcing a certain 'performance in the workplace' at the end of the day destroys them in all the ways it can.
It's an interesting book to think about, especially now that I'm finished with it, but I don't think(and it's not meant to in all fairness) it's enjoyable to read at all, and I kinda wanted to get the experience over with. It does help that bit as the book isn't very long or complicated and, aside from content, is easy to read.
Dunno. Had mixed feelings about this book but land more positive than negative.

Very abrupt ending. I definitely think more things could have been elaborated on and more details about the job could have been exposed. It was a gripping story but ultimately let me down.

ps. I wish I could read the book in its original language.

A pretty heavy read. I think it’s a good narrative on how what we see online really affects our behaviour in real life, hence we see how some of the characters change throughout the course of the book. It’s a short read - read it in a hour and a half. I would have liked a bit more exploration on the topic personally - because it’s so short I don’t think it’s as in depth as it could have been, but still a decent read.
