This is one of my childhood favorites. I love this book because it's a little cozy, simple, and homey. Although, it is a bit tense. The father is a war vetern and struggling with depression and PTSD, hence why the family goes to maple hill to heal. There is a very brief scene (its mentioned in passing) where the father slaps his son.
