Dated, stylized, and vaguely sexist. A product of its time that has not aged well. Nostalgic value only. (Squeaky clean)

I always meant to read this book as a child, but never got around to it. This book is still relevant to today's society. I love how the young heroine deals with her father's PTSD after his time in the war, and how she finds beauty in the simple things in nature. A great book for young readers in elementary school/middle school.

We were pleasantly surprised by this book. It’s such a sweet story. We weren’t sure what we’d think as it was starting, talking about a father who was angry and struggling in his adjustment to life post-war, but it ended up being a beautiful story of a family transformed.

'Twas an interesting read though. Has a charming plot suited indeed for middle-grade.

This was a beautifully written story about the miracles of nature over one year at Maple Hill. While Marley seems like the likely main character as the story is mostly from her perspective, I would say the main character is actually the hill itself.
