hello first five star read for this book. nothing makes me love a book faster than a magical world that also deals with bs like racism (or in the case of this book racism AND transphobia). loved how it was dealt with, i really liked most of the characters and i absolutely did not see some of the plot twists, need the next books now

This author uses trans people for entertainment value & gives TERFs equal time to talk in this book. The constant misgendering is a reason to avoid it: it's painful to read.

This was an emotional roller coaster! I didn't expect it to be so heavy. I enjoyed it. The chapters are split up by different characters perspectives. Niamh was definitely my favourite character and I enjoyed her chapters. Without adding spoilers, there was one character's chapters I found quite hard to read because of the hate in it. I loved Theo and wanted to protect them. Overall it was a compelling and important book and it definitely seems to be setting up for a sequel so I look forward to reading that.

I'm not much for reviews so I haven't much practice. Generally I liked the, although I found the switching back and forth between characters a little confusing. A week after I had read it, I couldn't remember which witch was which, which is never a good thing. Mostly, though, my problem is that
Helena's
behavior didn't make a lick of sense. If
Gaia had indeed accepted Theo as a girl, which can be seen empirically with how strong she is, then would Helena have really gone on the rampage she did?
I mean, is she just supposed to be
a stand in for JK Rowling?
Also, to go so far as to
murder Annie? Come on!
Speaking of which, some of what happens early in the book doesn't really hold together. The oracles have this huge vision and you simply don't
check with the most powerful Oracle in the area because it would upset her? How about if it were true, she would already know about it.

Also, I did not like the ending. It seems like a money grab.
